History of Swim Art

We began offering open water swims in June of 2004. Our beginnings were humble. We simply provided extra open water practice for the See Jane Run triathlon team. The second year we did the same.

By the third year, people were becoming curious about our group, and other swimmers and triathletes from other teams began joining us. Year by year we added more swims, more clinics, more Guides, and more swimmers. We grew and grew and grew.

In 2007, we added our Expedition swims, to offer more interesting, more challenging, and more picturesque swimming opportunities in the San Francisco Bay. We added more clinics, and even more swimmers joined our group.

In 2009 we created the first Gay in the Bay swim in honor of gay pride. The first inaugural swim was a "Bridge to Bridge" - all the way from the Oakland Bay Bridge to the Golden Gate Bridge. In 2011 we partnered with Equality California. The swim from Alcatraz to SF raised money for LGBTIQQ rights.

Swim Art will offer a limited schedule in 2013, because of America’s Cup activities (from July through September). All Swim Art events are subject to change.
